Causeway Coast and Old Bushmill

We left Derry, headed for Belfast via the Antrim coast hoping to walk along the Giant's Causeway. However it was a day of heavy rain bursts and hail so we enjoyed the beautiful coast from the car primarily. As LP says: The north coast of County Antrim from Ballycastle west to Portrush is known as the Causeway Coast, one of the most impressively scenic stretches of coastline in all of Ireland.

We stopped at Old Bushmill's Distillery hoping for a break in the weather. Bushmill's is the world's oldest legal distillery, having been granted a license by King James I in 1608. The tour took us right through the whole process - from the barley germinating and drying, through the triple distilling process where the alcohol content drops from 60 to 40% and the amount lost to evaporation is known as the angels' share; and on to the filling and packing of the bottles for shipping. Interesting note is that the bottles are rinsed with whiskey prior to filling as using water would dilute the whiskey.

And the tour concludes with a taste of course.
